Kashmir Stands United: A Valley in Grief, A Community of Resilience

Dal Lake is still. Shikaras are silent. But the spirit of Kashmir? Louder than ever.

Just days ago, Kashmir was basking in a season of record-breaking tourist arrivals. The Valley was alive with vibrant bazaars, serene boat rides, snowcapped adventures, and warm-hearted hospitality. But in less than 48 hours, the atmosphere has shifted.

A terror attack in Pahalgam tragically took the lives of 25 tourists and one local, casting a shadow over the Valley and sending ripples of grief throughout the nation.

Yet, what followed this dark day was nothing short of inspiring.

Deserted Dal Lake, But Not a Deserted Spirit

Flights leaving Srinagar are packed. Those arriving? Nearly empty. Dal Lake, once teeming with travelers, now reflects the sky in silence. The same shikaras that were fully booked two days ago now wait quietly at the ghats.

But Kashmir’s strength lies beyond its scenic beauty—it lies in its people.

Unprecedented Unity: Locals March for Peace, Hospitality & Humanity

For the first time in 35 years, Kashmir observed a complete public shutdown. Loudspeakers from mosques across towns and villages called on people to step out—not in anger, but in solidarity with the victims and in protest against terrorism.

From Srinagar to Pahalgam, shopkeepers, hoteliers, artisans, and ordinary citizens came together in peaceful protest, holding banners that read:

  • “We Stand With Our Tourists”
  • “Terror Has No Religion, No Place Here”

Local hotel owners have pledged free accommodation for 15 days to any tourist stranded in the region. This is not PR—it’s humanity in action.

From the Heart of an Artist: A Cry for Peace

Among those deeply affected is Padma Shri awardee Ghulam Rasool Khan, a legendary Jamawar patchwork artist from Srinagar. “The people here depend completely on tourism. That is the source of livelihood,” he shared, urging authorities to bring the culprits to justice. His voice joins thousands in condemning the attack and protecting the heritage and harmony of Kashmir.
